Tax credits extended for door and window replacement

Window boxIf you want to increase your home’s value, energy efficiency and comfort with new doors or windows, now is a good time to get started. Federal tax credits, which may help make the job more affordable, have been extended through December 31, 2016.

You don’t even have to replace all doors and windows in your primary residence to qualify. Installing a new window where there wasn’t one before also may be included.

Homeowners may receive a tax credit equal to 10% of the product cost (installation costs are not included) including:
• $200 for eligible all windows and skylights (not per window)
• $500 for qualified doors.

Homeowners receive no more than $500 in energy efficiency tax credits. Consult a tax professional to determine your project’s eligibility if you have received credit in previous years. Be sure to save all receipts and use Tax Form 5695 when filing.

Only ENERGY STAR products qualify for the tax credit. In the San Francisco Bay Area, look for products certified for the North-Central Climate Zone. The Energy Star website can provide details.

Larsen Construction carries many ENERGY STAR products, and its highly trained staff can help you select the right product for your home improvement project.
