Wood windows are generally the most expensive. The warranty is usually 10/20 years, 10 years on the parts and 20 years on the insulated glass.
Most wood windows with the proper glazing will qualify for the up to $1,500.00 Federal Energy Tax Credit.
They can either be wood inside and outside or wood inside with aluminum or vinyl exterior cladding. Some manufactures make custom sizes that can be sized to fit the existing opening, most are standard sizes and rough opening has to fit the window. Wood windows are the choice for some older homes and custom homes. Some heritage homes and some cities only allow wood or fiberglass windows. The down side of using wood windows is that require regular maintenance. Peeling paint is more than an eyesore; it’s a sign that the wood is being exposed to the weather, which will ultimately cause it to dry rot. Vinyl cladding is limited in color choices. Aluminum cladding usually has several standard color choices. The interior of most of the wooden windows needs to be finished.
